Interview & Digital Editor: Pankhuri Bhutani

If you've been on the lookout for your next short-film watch, we have an amazing recommendation for you!

A perfect blend of humour, with subtle hints of a blossoming romance, 'The First Moment We Met' tells an exciting tale of an unexpected meeting between two music-loving souls that further transforms into a beautiful relationship.

What follows is a humorous conversation, unexpected flying sparks, intense chemistry, a plethora of immensely laugh-out-loud moments, and a really surreal cameo at the end of the film.

Head on over to ReVamp to read more about "The First Moment We Met" as we talk with the phenomenal writer and creator of the film- Juggy Sohal alongside the two immensely talented lead protagonists Tadeyo Akitoye and Jordan Taffe-Watson about their experience on this wonderful project.

Hi there Tadeyo and Jordan! Thank you for joining us on ReVamp! How are you both doing?

Tadeyo: I'm doing great thank you! Thank you for having us!

Jordan: Hello, hello, thanks for having us! How are you?

Your recent film "The First Moment We Met" is an absolute enthralling and entertaining project! Definitely one-of-the-rare comedies that actually made me chuckle and laugh out loud.

So, talk to me about how you initially came upon to be the cast for this project.

Tadeyo: I've had the opportunity to work with Juggy before so when he wrote the script, he suggested I read for the role. I absolutely loved it and immediately wanted to be a part of the project.

Jordan:  It's actually a funny story! I had originally met Juggy back in early 2023 he had just released Kaur and he came into where I was working. We got to chatting and I'm sure he remembers it differently but I had just graduated drama school so I was doing my best not to seem too keen but I eventually let it slip that I was an actor. He took my contact details and when this project came around he asked if I would be interested. I read the script, loved it and the rest is as they say, history.

Do you remember your first impressions of your own characters? And did those impressions stay the same throughout the duration of your performance, or did you come out of the film with an altered/different perception of them?

Tadeyo: My first impression of Jay was, woah, she's ballsy! I also felt that she was relatable. The more we worked on bringing Jay to life, the more I saw her confidence, her free spirit, her "I know what I want, and I'm going for it" attitude.

Jordan: I guess I thought he was a lot like me. I think maybe a lot like everyone, sort of playing it cool outwardly but then he's like a duck feet under water if that makes sense? Duck syndrome. And I think that's what connected me to the character at first. Then I think as we worked on the project I saw the hopeless romantic and the quick wit. Which was all there on the page.

Most of the actors that I talk to usually have a specific element that they take away from their time on set. To some, it is the costumes, to others the dialogues, the friendship with the cast and crew, the makeup, the props, or even the ambience of the set.

So, I'd love to know what was the most memorable thing that you both think you took away from your time on this project?

Tadeyo: For me it was the positive energy and collective goal to bring the script to life. Everyone was on point and so so kind. We had a lot of laughs on set.

Jordan: You're right! I think all projects are special. Maybe making Louise Redknapp laugh? But yeah the whole shoot was a gift and fun and we played and just tried whatever came to mind or  what we found interesting. SO long winded way of saying the freedom to be a little childish and go for the laugh.

How would you two describe your characters Caleb and Janet to the people who are yet to be tuned into this phenomenal short-film?

Tadeyo: Janet (or Jay as she likes to be called) is very confident, she is a go getter, she has big emotions, she is far from shy, and she wants to find her man - not because of pressure from family and friends, though she feels it, but because she truly wants to find the love of her life.

Jordan: Caleb-- smooth, terrified.

In my other interview with the wonderful Juggy Sohal; the creator, writer and director of this film, I had to mention Jordan aka Caleb's spontaneous singing and rendition of Fugees as one of my most favourite sequences of the project.

Janet's "He's lucky, he's fine, 'cause boy cannot hold a note." definitely comes as a close second!

So, pertaining to that, do you two personally have a favorite dialogue or sequence from "The First Moment We Met" that you absolutely loved shooting and watching it back?

Tadeyo: I don't think I choose just one! Haha! I loved shooting the dancing scene and the scenes where Janet and Caleb are having their back and forth conversation. "Ms Jackson if you're nasty!"

Jordan: I want to clarify that I was told to be terrible, not that I'm not a terrible singer anyway but I believe the consensus in the room was that my first couple of takes were too good. Probably dulcet tones was my favourite.

What was your experience like meeting and working with each other as well as with the talented Louise Redknapp on this film?

Tadeyo: Working with Jordan was great! Fantastic actor and very funny! We had a lot of banter on set which made working together very natural.

It was also really nice working with and meeting Louise - she is sooo nice! She came in and added even more energy to an already bubbling set!

I hope I have the opportunity to work with both again soon.

Jordan: It was a great experience. I had such a blast just cracking jokes, enjoying the set and Louise was amazing. She was so kind, funny and she absolutely killed it.

Now that you two have immersed yourself into comedy, is there any other genre or type of project that you're looking forward to exploring and being a part of?

Tadeyo: A thriller, definitely a thriller.

Jordan: Funny thing is I primarily do a lot of drama, dramedies. This was sort of my first broad comedy that I've done apart from some theatre comedies I've done so it was refreshing. But yeah, I'm open for any and all genres.

What's next for you, Tadeyo and Jordan? Anything else you currently working on or have in the pipeline for the rest of this year?

Tadeyo: Hoping to make a debut in Nollywood. I'm also working on developing a YouTube series.

Jordan: Yep, I'm currently in pre-production on another short film which is set to shoot at the end of September and then we're in the initial stages on another project I wrote. I'll be acting in that one as well, so I've got a few things on the go.
Ending Note: (Thank you for taking out your time for this interview, Jordan and Tadeyo! Wishing you the best of luck on this project!)

Lastly, I would love to know if there's any message that you'd wish to convey to your fans and supporters currently reading this interview?

Tadeyo: Thank you do much for the support and I really hope you enjoy the film! Love is a beautiful thing!

Jordan: Thank you for watching this film, you're the best. I hope you're having a great day!
