Mad Love London

Hi Steve, Thanks for doing an interview with ReVamp Magazine. Mad Love London is amazing. What made you come up with the idea?

I originally launched my label with fashion designer, Abigail Love. It started off as a collaboration but because I had so much passion for the label I decided to carry it on by myself. That's where the name came from obviously my love for the Joker, there's a 90's comic called 'Mad Love', it's one of the most famous Joker comics and obviously her name is Abigail Love, so we just thought it was the most fitting name for the brand, so that's why we called it 'Mad Love London'. We decided it to launch it last year during the Pandemic, I think we were the only people who did a fashion show last year but it was all outside and it was all socially distanced and that's how Mad Love London started during a Mad time.

Some of your designs are inspired by Harley Quinn and the Joker from the Batman comics. Why did you choose those characters? Is there a reason behind them?

It was just fitting with the name. I just thought we needed to do some edition with the Joker and Harley t-shirts. We got Sean Oliver, a great comic book artist come in and did original art work and obviously my love with the Joker. I go to the States every year for Halloween as it's like my Christmas. I go to parties as different versions of him.

You did a fashion runway at the Backstreet Market. How was the experience to show off your clothing line?

Doing the Fashion show was very stressful, more stressful than I thought it would be. I didn't know how much time you have to put in doing something like that with organising make up artists, hairstylists, models etc. It was amazing like I said in my previous question, we would have been the only crazy people to do a catwalk show during a pandemic. It was a great collaboration with Abigail. It was a mixture of Abigail's clothing with Mad Love London.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

I would say the highlight of my career was styling Naomi Harris. I loved her from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies and to say I've styled a Bond girl as well is amazing. She's such a lovely down to earth lady to work with but there are so many different highlights of my career. That's probably one of them! I also did a shoot many years ago called Battle of the Muses which was in Shoreditch and it was one of most daunting shoots I've ever done in front of 500 people and there was a lot of fashion industry people there watching and it turned out to be one of the best shoots I've ever done to this day. I look back it and always think I'm so proud of that shoot with the clothes because you could still wear them now.

What’s in store for 'Mad Love London'?

I'm planning to relaunch the brand this summer. I gave it a little bit of a break because of another lockdown and it was the best thing to do but like I said we will relaunch it this summer and it will be bigger and better than it was before.
