Working opposite actor Ewan McGregor in 'A Gentlemen in Moscow'. Fehinti Balogun joins us today to talk about his time on set, what drew him to the character of Mishka, and why his heart is set on climate change.
Hi Fehinti. Congratulations on your latest project ‘A Gentlemen in Moscow’. How have you enjoyed the success of this?
I am so, so proud of this show and have loved being able to share it with people. But for the most part, my life is pretty much the same. Only now I have a poster with my face on It in the corridor.
You work alongside Ewan McGregor. What was it like sharing scenes with him? Did you have any funny moments on set that you can tell us?
It was so fun working with Ewan, he's so present, always responding to the moment always up for ideas and always, always playful. The funniest moments would be waiting in-between scenes, swapping stories from our lives. He always had a good story to swap.
What drew you to the role of Mishka?
The journey of the character. He’s a man caught between two worlds. Following an ideology that doesn’t live up to what he hoped. He holds nothing back and that pursuit of it fundamentally changes as the years go by. What a gift of an acting role.
When you’re not acting. You like to do informative talks about climate change. What made you want to go down this route?
I think because I want all the things I was promised growing up. A nice house, beautiful greenery, breathable air, clean water and on and on. Things we won’t have unless we fight for them. I want to have an amazing career that at the same time helps me create a better world, a world where everyone gets the things that we were promised.
Are there any dream roles you would love to try?
I’d love to lead a A24 Film that would be a dream come true. I’m also a big comic book and fantasy geek and have yet to get on spaceship or ride a dragon so……..
Lastly, if you had the opportunity to ReVamp anything. What would it be and why?
I’d love to revamp a few things about the UK - I'd love to revamp what we fund. no more fossil fuel money, massive investment in renewables, massive investments in communities, arts, education, so many things. ReVamp the working week and wages so we actually have time to engage in our lives and don't just see our value in how much we've worked. ReVamp how laws are passed and put in citizen assemblies at the heart of law making. The list goes on and on, DM me for my manifesto.
