Courtney Rumbold
Interview: Owen James Vincent
Being 1 of 3 from the girl group, Stooshe. We got to chat with the talented artist, Courtney Rumbold about what she's been up to during the pandemic, her favourite Stooshe tracks and as the 10th anniversary to the phenomenal track 'Black Heart' approaches we asked her what her favourite memory was from the hit selling single.
Hey Courtney. Thanks for chatting with us! What have you been up to lately? Have you been doing anything fun you can tell your readers?
Recently I have been back in the studio which I haven't done in a long time. I've been doing some covers, getting some new content and working on some new things which is very exciting! Me and the girls from Stooshe have been doing some prides and gigs as it's been a while since we've been together. Learning to DJ and I've got an art business I run which is beginning to take off!
Next year will be the 10 year anniversary to your Stooshe hit, ‘Black Heart’. What’s the most memorable thing you remember with the song?
Oooh! The most memorable thing I remember with the song was that we use to have a lot of people reach out to us and what we forget is that the song can touch people and have a meaning to them with what's going on in their lives. We had a Dad that left us a message saying his daughter was with very mean partner, bit off a monster and it resonated and I'm not sure if the daughter survived. That story always sticks out for me.
Even though you and the girls have different lives at the moment. It’s so nice to see you team up when you can to do Stooshe gigs. Will we be hearing any new Stooshe music in the future?
I will never say never! You never know? At the moment we are all doing different things that is our focuses at the moment but when we do come together, we do our gigs and have an amazing time when we do it.
What was your favourite Stooshe track you wrote and recorded?
My favourite track of mine has not been heard by many people. It was called 'In Too Deep' it was very old school 90's vibe, we also flipped in 'Real Love' by Mary J Blige but I think 'Black Heart' was fun, 'Love Me' was really fun because when we did the video we had different themed rooms, we had Travie McCoy with us and that was really cool!
If you could duet with any artist who would it be and why?
If Stooshe could team up with any artist it would be Bruno Mars. We've met Bruno Mars at the Brits and Wireless and I'm sure we taught him a dance routine? [laughs]. On stage the vibe he has and the vibe we have like the dancing, the clothes etc that would be a really cool duet. On my own it would have to be Rihanna, Lauryn Hill, Bob Marley or even Miley Cyrus!
You’ve just released a cover of ‘Freak Like Me’ with Nate Notes. Will we be hearing anymore music from you?
Yes! Where I've been in the studio with Nate recently, we have been working on some stuff, doing more things like Freak Like Me. I just like showing people that we're doing music and what we're up to in the studio. Hopefully at the end of this month I'll be putting out another song, so keep your eyes peeled!
