What attracted you to the role in Dune: Prophecy, and how did you prepare to bring your character to life in such a massive sci-fi universe?
I found so many things attractive about the role. Lila and her story was such a big pull for me because I’d never played anyone like Lila before. When preparing for the role, my main priority was ensuring that even in this epic sci-fi landscape, she still felt like a real person.
What has been the most challenging aspect of filming a large-scale production like Dune: Prophecy, especially with its epic settings and intricate plot?
I think the hardest challenge was navigating the world of Dune and all of its intricate details. Before the show, I was so new to the world of Dune, and now I’m a fan and lucky enough to be a part of the universe, but I still feel like I have a lot to learn.
The Dune series is known for its rich world-building and complex characters. How did you portray your character's development in this vast and layered story?
For me, it was trusting the scripts and collaborating with our directors and producers to ensure that the portrayal of Lila’s story and her development felt genuine. That was important to me.
What was it like working with the other cast members and the production team? Did you share any memorable on-set experiences?
Every day on set, I felt grateful for the cast and crew we had. A day that springs to mind was when Faoileann, Aoife, Jade, Hannah, and I were filming with the rain machine on a cliff in boiling weather. I was mentally psyching up to do the scene and saw our director, Anna, under the rain machine on full blast, testing it out. That was a moment where I was like, damn, she’s a badass.
How familiar were you with the Dune universe before taking on this role? Did you dive into the original books or previous adaptations for inspiration?
Before my audition for the role, I watched the first Denis Villeneuve film and thought it was incredible. Then, before shooting, I read the first book, which gave me an outline of the Dune world.
Dune is such a beloved sci-fi franchise; do you feel pressure from fans' expectations? How do you balance staying true to the source material while bringing something new to the role?
The pressure is just hoping that the fans like the show. People care about Dune so much, and it means a lot to them; it’s essential to want to deliver for the audience. When it came to the scripts, it felt real, and they were very collaborative about it.
Dune: Prophecy is now streaming on HBO.
