Carson MacCormac is poised to leave an unforgettable mark through his involvement in Netflix’s 'MY LIFE WITH THE WALTER BOYS'.

In the highly anticipated second installment of the hit YA drama, MacCormac embodies the persona of Zach, an enigmatic senior whose arrival stirs both hearts and tensions within the Walter household.

With his quietness and cunning demeanor, Zach becomes the catalyst for change, shaking the foundations of one of the show’s most beloved relationships and opening the door to a completely novel emotional territory further reshaping the patterns of love and loyalty at the heart of the story.

For Carson on the other hand, the project appears to be a true testament to showcase not only the charm and star quality that fans are already embracing from his character but also the subtlety of an actor who understands that the most powerful moments often reside in silence, stillness, and in what goes unsaid.

Season 2 does not merely introduce us to a new character, it also introduces MacCormac as the next heartthrob and a force to be reckoned with.

We sit down with Carson MacCormac to discuss his audition process for Zach, what it was like joining the beloved cast for its highly anticipated second installment, his experience working on the project, and all things MY LIFE WITH THE WALTER BOYS!

Can you walk me through the very first moment you read for Zach as well as your audition process for 'My Life With the Walter Boys'

What was your gut instinct about who he was as a character and did that first impression shift as you dove deeper into the role?

Yes, I remember I only had one audition for Zach, if I'm remembering correctly. It was just one self-tape that I did. And I think the part that stood out to me the most from the sides is just the crazy amount of confidence this kid has for a high schooler and wanting to steer as far into that as possible.

Just playing the fact that the world in his mind revolves around him as opposed to worrying too much about what anyone else is going through.

Do you remember your first day on set and getting to meet your fellow co-stars for the first time?

I do, yes. I had one friend on the show who I already knew well. Kolton Stewart, who is incredible on the show. And he has an amazing arc of the season as well that I'm excited for people to see.

I remember the first day I met everyone. The cast is extremely welcoming. They're kind of all like a family on that show. They just have such a good time all hanging out together. And even off-set, they were very welcoming and bringing all the new characters into the mix.
It did just feel like one giant family out there.

And can you walk me through the creative process for the role? Did you have any specific acting ritual or a routine that helped you immerse yourself into Zach’s mindset during filming?

Yeah, I wanted to change how he presents himself physically a little bit because he kind of represents something that is very specific on the show which is a shock to the nervous system of the characters that he interacts with.

And in order to do that, I kind of wanted to keep him on the quieter side. I wanted him to feel a bit more like the whisper of something that might not be entirely good or bad, but just different.

So, I wanted to physically represent that by making his voice a little more airy and keeping him in a headspace that felt a little less physically grounded and more ethereal. I just tried to steer as much into that during the season as I could.

When you were building Zach especially knowing he’s this antagonist but also a very complex character, did you start to find anything that resonated with you in terms of your personality traits? What would you say is the biggest similarity or difference between you and Zach?

As far as the relationship that I have to Zach's character, I'd say I relate more to him much later in life than as opposed to who I was when I was in high-school. I was nothing like Zach when I was 16/17. (Laughs)

I believe it's probably the power that you can find when you embrace who you are as a person and the confidence that comes along with that.
So, I think that confidence is something that he found recently and he's exploring that in a way that is very relatable. And those first steps into really embracing who you are as an individual is something that I admire a lot of in Zach.

Zach is introduced into an existing foundation of the world of Walter Boys.

As an actor, how did you step into a mid-run narrative that already has such an established fanbase where it feels like you're trying to integrate yourself within the project while still carving out space for your character and bring in something fresh?

The way that I went about integrating into this very concrete ecosystem that Zach's character exists within was with a very strong agenda. Like just knowing that he is there for a reason and what he's doing is going to force all the characters around him to question themselves, their motivations, and what they want.

And the way that I wanted to do that was by just searing towards going after what I want shamelessly and without any kind of remorse or holding back at all. I don't know if it'll be a happier or mixed reception to that but it'll be a shocking one for sure.

A lot of actors that I talk to usually craft something that's very personal to their character that audience might not see on the screen. Like a certain backstory or an arc that they make in their minds.

Did you build any kind of personal backstory for Zach that went beyond the script? Perhaps imagined something about him that never made it onscreen but helped you shape how you played him?

Absolutely! The reasons why characters do what they do are the most important thing for me when I'm building characters.
With Zach and most of my characters, it's always a lot of journaling that I like to do in order to get into their headspace. A lot of it is about backstory and the history of how they've led up to the person that they are now.

But a lot of it is also just creating opinions for the character about things that just pop into my brain every day. Just writing, seeing what happens, and focusing as much as possible while making sure that the voice that I'm writing with is that of Zach and not of Carson. And that helps me a lot.

I also like music as an outlet to get into character roles. I'll create little playlists for characters and Zach definitely has one on my phone. There's this new artist who I love. And I just added the song to the playlist recently. It's an artist named Mark William Lewis who had a song called '17' and listening to it feels very relatable to being 17.

And do you have a favourite sequence from the project that you absolutely can't wait for fans to see and get their reactions to?

Yes, definitely. I loved working with all the actors on the show so much. But Nathan (Corey Fogelmanis) and I have some scenes that I'm very excited for the audiences to see.

I don't want to spoil too much, but there's a scene that happens in the hallways of the school that's really exciting. There's one sequence in the classroom with Jaylan's character (Skylar) as well that I really enjoyed. I think there's some stuff with Corey that the audiences will get a lot out of.

Now that we're almost on the verge of this project releasing, how is this anticipation period going for you knowing that people are finally about to witness your performance on such a global scale?

It doesn't quite feel real yet. I always have this with releases where I don't fully digest the fact that the product is out and the public is seeing it until a week or two afterwards. But I'm very excited.

I know audiences have been waiting a while for the second season of the show. So, I'm excited to deliver on that. I'm excited to be a part of the cast. I think it's a really great group of people and I just know audiences are going to be happy with what's going on in season two.

Lastly wrapping up our beautiful conversation, I'd love to know what's next for you, Carson? Anything else besides WALTER BOYS you're currently working on that you'd like to tell us or your fans about?

I finished working on a movie called 'This Is Not A Test' earlier this year. I don't know anything yet about when it's coming out, but I'm very excited for it.

I also have a very exciting movie that I worked on a couple of years ago that's finally working towards getting its release called 'Where Did the Adults Go?' That I really cannot wait for audiences to see.

It's a really intimate and a slow burn story about siblings living in this home together. So, those are the two projects that I can talk about.
I just finished working on a set out in Vancouver for the last little while. I can't say anything yet about what that project is but be on the lookout for more news about that one soon as well!
