Shane Ramdhany interviews Andrew P. Logan, star of the recently released Netflix series, American Primeval. Andrew discusses the tragic loss of his Dad and how he has channelled this event into his passion for acting. He also meditates on his time on the set of American Primeval, his biggest role yet, and explores the greatest challenges, and most rewarding aspects of working on this show.
Tell us about your experience working on American Primeval and your character Lucas.
It was a dream come true. I am just this dude from Michigan. I grew up watching movies. I loved to go to the movie theater. Growing up, Friday Night Lights was a big movie for me, which was also directed by Peter Berg (American Primeval director). Working with Pete and Taylor Kitsch among the rest of the cast and crew were such a pleasure to work with. Pete was great with taking me under his wing and getting me to slow down my pace. I don’t know if you noticed, but I talk very fast! (Laughs)
Jai Courtney was really awesome as well with taking me under his wing. He was really like a big brother who made sure I was able to stand on my own two feet.
What inspired you to purse a career in acting?
My Dad was a big source of inspiration. It was difficult for me to talk about this for two years. I’m not excited about it now, but I don’t mind and it will actually put a smile on my face because I know he would love for me to talk about this stuff. I know he is up there now smiling down on me. I loved him so much, he was a great guy to me. He pushed me in so many ways that drove me to be where I am today. Dad was the person I would always go to vent to regarding not getting enough auditions. I won’t say exactly what he said to me because it involves cursing (laughs) but what he essentially said to me was to just “shut up and go get better.”
What are some of the biggest challenges you have found with acting?
I went very hard with training so it’s not so much with acting itself but rather my nerves and experiencing imposter syndrome. This was especially the case on the set of American Primeval being amongst big names such as Taylor Kitsch, Peter Berg and Dane Dehaan. I’m just a dude from Michigan with $10 in his account right now alongside this cast and crew. However, they gave me all the validation I needed to make me feel like I do belong here.
How do you like to spend your time when you are not acting?
I am very much a sports and video games guy. I am not really into parties. I love playing Call of Duty and Rocket league as well as watching movies. I recently started talking to more of my friends in Austin TX and am just trying to get back out there again as the last two years have been crazy. I used to hike as well and would like to start doing that again.
Can you tell us about any upcoming projects?
Me and my team are taking a step back as I have now completed a bigger role. I now busted my way into the front door and am starting to pitch myself in a different light. I am just auditioning right now but I can say that I am receiving audition opportunities for juicier roles now. I know it’s not going to be too long before I am flying out to Austin at some point for the next role!
