Hi Adam! First of all, thank you for taking part in this interview. Can you tell us a bit about Spencer Churchill and where the name came from?
Spencer Churchill came from my desire to give the firm a name that embodies victory, perseverance, Britishness, and a "never give up" attitude. These qualities are essential for anyone engaging a law firm. After all, who wants to work with lawyers who lack that spirit?
I was exploring various ideas—names, words, or symbols that encapsulated this essence—when World War II came to mind. That era represented resilience and determination. As I dug deeper, I discovered that Winston Churchill’s full surname is actually Winston Spencer Churchill. It felt like the perfect fit for what we stand for.
How did you get into this field, and what’s your background?
My first career job was in recruitment, where I honed skills in sales, training, leadership, and, of course, recruitment. I did that for about six or seven years before transitioning into wealth management. I started at my dad’s financial advisory firm, gaining qualifications and building my own client base over the next seven or eight years.
I’ve always known I’d eventually run my own business. About eight or nine years ago, I spotted an opportunity to create a financial negligence business, which I successfully launched. From there, I decided to evolve the business into a full-service law firm as the regulatory landscape was shifting. Today, we’ve established ourselves as corporate commercial lawyers while maintaining our financial negligence practice.
What would you say is your biggest challenge in your job?
The biggest challenge is continuous improvement. Growing the business, leading the team, and managing effectively—these are the three pillars I focus on. It’s about constantly evolving to stay ahead.
Where would you like to see yourself in five years?
In five years, I want Spencer Churchill to be one of the top law firms. When I first set this goal, it felt like saying, “I’m going to build a rocket and land it on Mars.” That’s how ambitious it is. But I’m determined to make it happen. Beyond that, I want to be happy and healthy. It may sound simple, but it’s true.
What advice would you give to someone who's struggling to start a business?
Take action. Action wins every time. Too many people procrastinate, trying to perfect their model, marketing, product, or service. But there’s no such thing as perfect. I’ve seen countless opportunities slip away because people were stuck in planning mode while someone else brought a similar idea to market. My philosophy is: launch when it’s “good enough to go,” then refine and improve as you move forward. This approach accelerates your path to success far more than waiting for perfection.
So, take action now. Procrastination is the enemy of progress.
When you’re not working, what do you do to relax?
Work is my hobby. I have an obsessive nature, possibly stemming from ADHD or OCD, or maybe it’s just pure passion. If I’m not working, I’m probably asleep.
Lastly, do you have any messages you’d like to share with our readers?
It’s never too late to start. It’s not about where you begin but where you finish. I started my business at 35, and if I lost everything today, I’d happily start over at 44 without hesitation.
Take action now. Don’t wait. Whether it’s changing careers, learning a new skill, starting a side hustle, or re-educating yourself, the time to act is now. What are you waiting for? The steps you take today could lead to the life and income you want tomorrow.
