A.C.E emerges into a musical powerhouse as they follow the momentum of their previous record-breaking offering "Supernatural" with their novel single.
From their comeback track that positioned itself to be a chart-dominating success to bringing out all facets of emotions and an unexpectedly versatile and introspective glimpse into their artistry through their recent offering "Anymore", A.C.E is a group that truly needs no introduction.
We chat with A.C.E about all things ANYMORE, their creative process, how it was like releasing a track so distinct from their past singles, their experience working with each other, insights into their future plans and much more.
Hi there everyone. Thank you so much for joining us on ReVamp! How are you all doing and how has 2024 been like for you guys so far?
Park Junhee:We’ve been doing really great! It’s been a busy year with album promotions and touring. We’re currently preparing for our South American and European tours, and so far, 2024 has felt fantastic!
I would love to begin our conversation by asking about what it was initially that lured all of you towards the landscape of music and entertainment. Was this something you always wanted to pursue from an extremely young age or did this passion emerge at a later phase of your life?
Kang Yuchan: I think we just knew that this was our calling from early on. For me, my parents owned a record shop even before I was born, so I was exposed to a lot of music from an early age. They would play me a bunch of new records they received from the shop, and I would always love singing along to them. And through this experience, I think I developed a desire to become a singer without realizing it.
Your previous track ‘Supernatural’ garnered a sensational amount of love and support from around the world. How was it like knowing that your artistry is reaching such massive levels on such a global scale?
Kim Byeongkwan: There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a song we prepared for our fans receive so much love and success! We’ll continue to work hard!
Let's talk about your recent track ‘Anymore’. First of all, huge congratulations on the launch of this phenomenal song! Do you remember how the initial inspiration behind this song struck you for the first time?
Donghun: As soon as I heard the acoustic guitar, I thought, “This is a style A.C.E hasn’t tried before!” I always wanted to explore this kind of emotional music, and I’m so glad A.C.E got the chance to do it. The inspiration came from wanting to express the loneliness of autumn that people experience in different ways.
And what was the general creative process like with ‘Anymore’? Did you face any sort of challenges during its production stage?
Kang Yuchan: Since this genre was something A.C.E had never done before, it felt like a new challenge. Instead of difficulties, the main thing we focused on was figuring out how to make this song sound like A.C.E while still being pleasing to the listeners. What do you all think?
This track is quite distinct from your previous releases; delving a bit more towards the emotional and vulnerable side of you as individuals. How did you decide this was something you wanted to share with the world. Did you ever feel any kind of pressure or nervousness knowing you're about to craft such an intimate track that so many people might listen to considering the massively established amount of fanbase you have currently garnered?
Wow: This is a genre I personally enjoy, and it’s also a type of song A.C.E hasn’t done before, so I felt excited and eager rather than nervous. I didn’t feel any pressure—in fact, I felt more at ease.
As artists involved in a group, how do you maintain and make sure that each of your specific creative visions are amalgamated equally within a certain project? And that all of you showcase your own unique artistic abilities out there?
Park Junhee: The longer we’ve worked together, the more we understand each other’s strengths and what we each need. We spend a lot of time discussing and brainstorming how to highlight each member’s unique qualities. I think that’s where a lot of great synergy comes from.
Did your initial visualization of the ‘Anymore’ match up with the final outcome you witnessed to be out there? Or did the track evolve into something novel during its production than planned prior to working on it?
Donghun: It turned out pretty much as we initially envisioned. The demo was already quite well-developed, and we were able to add A.C.E’s unique color to it, so we could comfortably inject our individual emotions into the song. While the original song expressed the loneliness of one person, with A.C.E’s version, it feels like we’re speaking on behalf of many different emotions.
The track has already been out for 10 days! How are you enjoying the reception you're currently receiving on 'Anymore'?
Kim Byeongkwan: We’ve been blown away by the love it’s received! I think we’d love to continue exploring deep, minimalistic styles like this in the future.
How do you think have each of you evolved as an artist; be it pertaining to your vocal abilities, writing process or any other element affiliated with artistry ever since your debut came to be to now that you have released this latest single?
Wow: We’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on ourselves and our craft, and I think that’s led to a deeper sense of sincerity in many aspects.
I'm very curious to know if all of you had any favorite moments from working together as a group? Or perhaps any memorable thing that you have learned from each other from working together on A.C.E this long.
Park Junhee: Touring together is where we learn the most. Performing together for over two hours daily naturally helps us sync up on stage. There are times when we make little mistakes that only we notice, and we help each other out without the audience ever knowing. We’ve become much better at handling unexpected situations smoothly.
What's next for you, A.C.E? Anything else in the pipeline for the rest of this year or any other projects you're currently working on that you'd like to tell us or your fans about?
Kang Yuchan: We’re gearing up for our South American and European tours this October and November, so please look forward to that! We’ll also be making more time to connect with our fans, so please continue to show us your love and support!
Ending Note: Thank you everyone for joining me on this insightful interview! Wishing all of you lots of luck for all your projects!
Lastly, I would love to know if there's any message that you'd like to convey to your fans and supporters currently reading this interview?
Kim Byeongkwan: Thank you so much for loving A.C.E! Your support keeps us going, and we’ll continue to show you even more amazing sides of ourselves for a long time to come! We love you!!
