One of the upcoming actors in the entertainment industry, Liberty Hobbs is clearly rising up the stairs of fame everyday. Known for her widely loved roles in shows such as Grey’s Anatomy, CBS’s Criminal Minds and YouTube Red’s Ryan Hansen Solves Crimes on Television with Samira Wiley and Ryan Hansen, Liberty was successful in garnering the opportunity to play one of the leads in Kay Mellor’s The Syndicate for BBC opposite the talented Neil Morrisey and Joe Sugg.

Besides being a talented actor, Liberty also shares her passion for travel and exploring the world as she has lived all over the world including some beautiful places such as Sharjah, Kuwait, Qatar, Abu Dhabi, Saudi Arabia, Virgin Islands, Washington State, Texas, Florida and California.

Liberty recently caught up with ReVamp talking about everything from her acting journey to what shows she is currently binge watching during the quarantine, ending the interview with a short and sweet message to her fans!

Hi there Liberty. Thank you for joining us on ReVamp! How are you doing? How is 2021 treating you so far? 

So far, so good. Thank you for having me! 

What has your experience been like working in Kay Mellor’s ‘The Syndicate’ opposite phenomenal talents like Neil Morrisey and Joe Sugg? How did you initially get involved with the series, and what can you tell us about your character in the show?

Working with Neil Morrisey was amazing! I learned so much from him and loved chatting to him when we weren’t filming, he has so many interesting stories. Joe Sugg is so sweet and it was great to be a part of his TV acting debut. 

The story of how I booked this role is actually one of my favorite audition stories. I received the audition from my agent and, at that point, they weren’t looking for my character but I filmed the scenes anyway and sent it in. The next day I received an email that said Kay had seen it and was in New York and wondered if I would fly to meet her to discuss the role. So…I did and the rest is history.

I play Gemma who is a 22 - year old dog kennel worker. She is a kind, sweet and bubbly girl who lives with her grandma and has an un-denying love for headbands! She is always putting other’s needs before her own and as the series continues ,we see that at her core, she is this extremely hurt girl who has a lot of anger she needs to deal with, which is all revealed in Episode 6. 

What drew you to this role? Was there any specific quality that you learned about your character after exploring it deeply that you didn’t know was there when you first read the script?

The characteristics of Gemma are very similar to me…her love for her grandma, her love of dogs, being from Yorkshire. That drew me to her immediately. There was a lot to Gemma that I brought that “wasn’t on the page”. Little idiosyncrasies that I thought were cute for her to have as I wanted her to be likable from the start so that after audiences watched episode 6, they could really sympathize with this character. I really tried to add little characteristics to playing her that softened her throughout. 

Having worked in so many shows, is there any distinct genre that you’re open to working in the future?

My absolute dream would be to work in a musical movie like The Greatest Showman or Pitch Perfect. Fingers crossed! I love both comedy and drama, so would be open to both! 

If you could have an opportunity to star in a show that you haven’t gotten an opportunity to work in, which show would you love to be a part of? Also, are there any shows or movies that you are currently watching? 

That’s a hard question…there are so many shows I would love to be a part of. I’ve always wanted to be on a CW series, so I would have to say Riverdale! I’m watching a lot of shows right now. I am always watching Friends because…duh! I just started the Mare of Easttown and have just finished season 1 of Get Even on Netflix. I’m constantly watching different shows to see if I can learn anything from their productions, the actors, or just the show as a whole. 

What would you consider to be the best and most memorable part of your professional career? 

I think the turning point for me was Criminal Minds. Even though I had no lines in the scene, it was a huge moment for me personally, because I proved to myself that I could audition in LA amongst thousands of others and be the one person that books the role on a primetime TV show. It just gave me the extra fire inside to keep pushing forward to get to the next thing. 

What is the best piece of advice that you have ever received?

That’s a hard question…I think probably just to never give up, keep going during the down times of life because there will always be an up again. 

What’s next for you Liberty? Any upcoming projects that you would like to hint your fans about? 

Being an actor is hard man, ha! I’ve got a couple of things I am working on and hopefully I can share more about that soon but for right now, I will just say that I am auditioning like crazy and will see you from the TV screen soon all being well. 

Lastly, is there any message that you would like to convey to your supporters from around the world?
