Saint Raymond

Words by Pankhuri Bhutani

Constantly refining his sound, experimenting with new ideas, Callum Burrows, widely known as Saint Raymond, recently surprised his fans with his highly-awaited second album ‘We Forgot We Were Dreaming’ on April 16th of this year. The album, which was launched alongside the brand new track ‘Solid Gold’ is garnering massive amount of listeners day by day.

In addition, Saint Raymond also made an exciting announcement of performing an intimate UK underplay headline tour for April. It comes ahead of a full UK tour later in 2021. Callum recently had a wonderful chat with ReVamp as he gave insights into the creative process behind this wonderful new project as well as reveal his plans for the future!

Hello there Callum. So great to have you on ReVamp! How’s it going?

Thanks for having me! Yeah I’m really good thank you.

Your new album ‘We Forgot We Were Dreaming’ will be dropping soon! Congratulations! How is this anticipation period going for you so far?  Feeling excited or nervous?

Yeah it’s been so long since my first record came out that it feels good to finally have some new music out there and I’ve just really enjoyed seeing everyone’s reaction to it. It’s been a really strange on for me because normally when things like a record are coming out I’d be away doing promo, maybe playing a bunch of shows but because of the world at the minute I’ve had a lot of time to just sit and think! So I’m really relaxed for this release.

What can you tell us about this brilliant new project? How was the experience like working on this album? Any challenges you faced in particular?

I think the biggest challenge for me personally was just making sure it was the right record and exactly what I wanted to release. Like I mentioned earlier because it’s been so long and there’s a bit of anticipation you’re naturally a bit more nervous about what you put out but I think I rose to the challenge well.

Is there a particular theme or message that you think resonates perfectly with this album?

I think a lot of the record is themed around relationships and I also talk about mental health on it. They are two overriding factors that play a part in a lot of peoples lives and I feel like people can really relate to that

What track within this album are you the most eager to showcase to your fans?

The last song on the album ‘Amsterdam’ I think captures what Saint Raymond is perfectly. The song starts off as a slow guitar lead song filled with ambience and ends up in a kind of rock heavy world, with a guitar driven ending and I think that’s exactly what Saint Raymond is to me - a mixture of those worlds.

What’s one thing that your fans should know about you personally which they might not get to know listening to your music?

That’s a tricky one! There’s probably a few things but I think if people listen to my music they probably assume that I only listen to guitar lead, indie maybe? But I’m into absolutely anything, I’ve mentioned it before but I will literally listen to One Direction, Kanye West etc.  I have no specific genre of choice that I enjoy - I just enjoy good songs whether it be a  pop song or rock song.

What’s next for you Callum? Currently working on any more new music?

Yeah I’ll always work on other music whether that be for mysel or for other artists but my biggest excitement is to get back on the road and tour!
