Blair Davie is a rising Scottish singer-songwriter known for their emotive lyrics, rich vocals, and deeply personal storytelling, with a growing reputation for blending indie-pop melodies with heartfelt authenticity. Davie continues to make a mark in the UK music scene.
Their latest single, 'Butterflies', is a moving exploration of enduring love, beyond the excitement of first sparks and into the quiet, powerful moment of genuine connection. The song captures that rare feeling of finding someone who feels like home, blending tender lyricism with atmospheric production. With 'Butterflies', Davie offers a sincere and introspective anthem for anyone who's experienced love that grows deeper with time.
“Butterflies” feels emotionally charged—can you walk us through the story or inspiration behind the song?
The song arrived in an Airbnb in the middle of nowhere in Scotland last January where I spent a week bringing some of my favourite people in to write some songs for a couple weeks.
My friends Mark Prendergast and Corey Sanders joined me for the first few days and we were having a magical time playing fifa, drinking Jack Daniels and writing. On the day Butterflies came we’d had a sticky morning trying to crack a song that didn’t want to be cracked until we decided to leave it and have a fifa break. I lost the game to Mark and went off in a huff to play piano and that’s when the first little seeds of the idea arrived.
Now, the very first tattoo I got was lovely blue shaded butterfly on my left arm. So when Corey spotted the tattoo on my arm as I was playing the piano, the idea came to write about a special kind of love, butterflies that never fly away.
The lyrics seem deeply personal—was there a particular moment or experience that sparked the creation of this track?
I don’t know if there was any one moment or memory but more a collage of an infinite number of them where you look at the person you’ve fallen in love with and realise that you care for them unconditionally, with no sign of that every fading away. From the first time meeting in a bar in East London, to meeting the family, cooking together and moving into our first place. All these special little time capsules inspired the song without even needing to be mentioned. The heart of the song is just knowing that I will always be enamoured and inspired by you, no matter what happens or who we grow into.
How did the songwriting process for “Butterflies” differ from your previous work?
I wouldn’t actually say the songwriting process was any different to usual really. A couple friends in a room, leading with our hearts and our love, all trying to pluck magic out the sky. We talk about the people we love and our experiences with them, we play some chords on pianos and guitars until it starts feeling exciting, and we mumble-sing into the air in the hopes that one of us goes “woah I like that, what was that?” and that’s when you know you’re onto something.
The production has a very atmospheric feel—who did you collaborate with on this track, and what kind of sound were you aiming for?
It was produced by the wonderful Edd Holloway, someone I’ve gotten to spend a lot of time with over the last year making music together. We wanted to keep things as raw and intimate as possible. Maybe one or two takes of every part, trying to embrace the little imperfections: the piano stool squeaks, fret noice, voice cracks etc. I think all of these elements helped make a really raw and honest sound.

What do you hope listeners take away from “Butterflies” after their first listen?
I think they’ll hear something that’s really honest and warm. Hopefully reassuring and inspiring that a love like that could be round the corner. In today’s world I feel like we hear so much about breakups and situation-ships that don’t work out and I just don’t really want to feed into that narrative at this point in time. Love is joyous and magical and I wanted this song to have that feeling of falling in love and dreaming of it lasting forever.
Visually and thematically, if you were to make a music video for “Butterflies,” what would it look like?
We actually did make a video and it’s out on YouTube! I really believe that the song can do all the talking so we kept it super simple, just me and the piano in a beautiful space captured in lovely lighting with me just having a lovely time singing my wee song.
How does “Butterflies” fit into the broader narrative of your upcoming music or EP? Is it a hint of what’s to come?
I’ve got lots of music to come this year and yes, ‘Butterflies’ is the first step into this world a tale that tells the story of first meeting someone special, to driving off into the sunlight together, moving into your first flat, getting married and then a love that lasts forever.
What is the one thing you would like to ReVamp and why?
I’d love to revamp hot dogs for a vegetarian. I used to love those that would come out of a tin filled with brine. You knew they were terrible for you, but by god, they tasted amazing. I’ve never had a good veggie hotdog, they’re always too sausage-like. I know a hot dog is indeed a sausage, but those that came out of the tin were like their own beast, know. So come on, people, a good veggie hot dog please.
