Sandro and globally renowned artist Louise Bourgeois have created a unique capsule collection
Globally renowned artist Louise Bourgeois, best known for her innovative and monumental sculptures, has inspired this Sandro capsule collection, particularly adopting the ’deconstructing to better reconstruct’ approach Louise’s work is recognised for. Upcycling was something Bourgeois was doing through her creative process long before it was a trending word. These creative approaches within her work and creative process have been inspirational to the Sandro team. The design team at Sandro also paid close attention to the details in Bourgeois’ work and incorporated the symbolic spirals she often used into prints across the range. ‘For Evelyne Chetrite, Founder and Artistic Director at Sandro…the deconstructed and reconstructed fabrics awakened poetic images in her: memories under the parasols of a beach in Nice’.
During the research stage, the Women’s design studio at Sandro deepened their perception of Louise Bourgeois' world, and felt her artistic expression could be further evolved into a unique capsule collection.
“Like Louise, we tried to reflect on our relationship with clothes. Like her, we may have found a way to master the chaos that surrounds us. Like Louise, SANDRO celebrates women without
claiming militant feminism and appreciates fashion without succumbing to the excesses of ultra-consumerism.” Evelyne Chetrite, Founder & Artistic Director, Sandro.
Natural materials such as linens, printed cotton poplin, and silk twill have been used throughout to make up this summery collection of flowing shirts, trousers, airy dresses, a skirt, hat and bag.
Catch a glimpse of Louise Bourgeois’ Maman Spider sculpture, which is making a comeback for the gallery’s 25th anniversary at the Tate Modern this Spring.
