British-Ghanaian actress Vanessa Vanderpuye is a rising star. She won an award for Best Actress in the horror movie A Song from the Dark and has starred in shows such as Bulletproof on Sky One.

Vanderpuye chats to us about her award-winning movie, facing challenges on set and things she would love to ReVamp.

Hey Vanessa! Thank you for talking to us today. We are so excited to have you here! How was your summer?

Hey! Thanks so much for having me—it's great to chat with you. My summer was amazing, filled with rest, travelling and preparation for upcoming projects. I had the chance to recharge, but I’m excited to get back into the swing of things.

Congratulations on your film ‘A Song from the Dark’, where it’s won awards for it's performance and one that you won for Best Actress. How does this make you feel your hard work has paid off?

Thank you for the congratulations! Winning the Best Actress award for A Song from the Dark is surreal. It’s one thing to work so hard on a project, but to have that recognised in such a way is really rewarding. It feels like the culmination of passion, dedication, and the incredible team I worked with. I’m genuinely grateful.

What drew you to be part of  ‘A Song from the Dark’?

What drew me to A Song from the Dark was its depth and complexity. The script was hauntingly beautiful, and my character had so many layers that I felt an immediate connection. I was also intrigued by the film’s exploration of fear, love, and resilience in the face of the unknown. I knew bringing that to life would be challenging and fulfilling.

Were there any challenges you had to overcome during filming?

Oh Definitely! Filming such intense and emotional scenes can be physically and mentally exhausting. There were moments when it felt draining, but having a supportive cast and crew helped immensely. We were able to push through those tough times together.

What do you like to get up to in your free time?

In my free time, I enjoy unwinding with simple things— listening to music, spending time outdoors, catching up on shows or films in the cinema I’ve missed. I’m a bit of a foodie, so I love discovering new places to eat or experimenting with cooking at home.

Are there any projects that you’ve worked on that are coming out?

I have some exciting projects lined up, but unfortunately, I can’t share too much yet! But I can say there are a couple of roles that I’m thrilled to dive into soon, so stay tuned.

Suppose you had to ReVamp anything in the world. What would it be and why?

If I had to ReVamp anything in the world, it would be that everyone deserves a safe place to call home. It’s heartbreaking to see so many people without that basic necessity. I’d love to see more initiatives that focus not only on providing shelter but also on addressing the root causes, like mental health, addiction, and lack of affordable housing. Creating more comprehensive support systems could help people rebuild their lives and find long-term stability.

A Song from the Dark is now streaming on Amazon Prime.
