Northern Ireland's singer, NADIA is back to talk to us about her new single 'Buzz', artists that inspire her to create her music and she gives us advice to upcoming musicians who are starting in the music industry.

Firstly, what can you tell us about your new single‘Buzz?’

Buzz is such a meaningful song to me and was written about never feeling alone in the city and how the buzz of the crowds of people always keeps you company. I’m so thankful for all the support it’s been getting since its release! 

Describe ‘Buzz’ in three words: 

Dreamlike, ethereal, dark 

Was this a song taken from your own experiences?

I think it’s something I’ve always felt in big cities and I drew on experience from being in London, New York etc. The ‘buzz’ and noise of the crowds can feel comforting and help you feel less alone.

Your music tends to fuse electronica with melodic dance-pop. Do you have any favourite artists that influence you within these genres?

My producer who’s also my dad, has been a musician all his life and has a diverse music taste. He’s always been drawn to electronic music and has a lifetime of influences from all different genres to draw upon such as Kraftwerk, Miles Davis, Lalo Schifrin, Vangelis, Sly and Robbie, The Chemical Brothers and Deadmaus! 

For myself, I was very influenced by Soul and Motown music growing up. Nowadays, I listen to a lot of pop and electronic artists such as Tame Impala, Dua Lipa, Troye Sivan and more. 

How do you approach the creative process when crafting a new song? Do you have any rituals or routines that help get your creative juices flowing?

Writing lyrics is one of those things I can’t force. Ideas come to me out of nowhere and I have so many lyrics written in my notes folder or short voice recordings. In terms of production, I love the process of taking a rough idea and being able to develop it into a finished song. I always start with some basic chords and a rough vocal in the studio. Then my producer and I work towards the finished song over a few weeks. It’s always a learning process which I love and I’m always developing new production skills. 

Collaborations can often bring new dimensions to an artist's work. Is there anyone you'd particularly like to collaborate with in the future, either within or outside your genre.

Mark Ronson is definitely high on my list of people I’d love to work with and has been for many years. He’s an amazing producer and musician and it would be a dream to collaborate with him.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians who are just starting their journey in the industry?

Don’t expect things to happen overnight! The saying ‘it takes 10 years to become an overnight success’ is absolutely true in my opinion. Also, you have to get used to rejection early on and learn to not take things personally! If you have true desire and unshakeable belief in yourself, you have to keep going no matter what!

Do you have new music currently in the works? Are you excited for what’s next? 

At the moment I’m working in the studio on a new track, finishing the edit on my new music video ‘Push the Button’ and also preparing for my first show in London, supporting the brilliant artist ‘D3lta’.
