Josh Tedeku is a name you need to keep your eyes on with dropping his new show 'Boarders' on BBC Three and has an upcoming show with  Netflix called 'SUPACELL' with Doctor Who star, Toisin Cole and Some Girls star, Adelayo Adedayo. We can say that Tedeku has a busy year ahead!

Hi Josh! Congratulations on your role in Boarders. What can you tell us about your character ‘Jahiem’?

Hello! Jaheim is a boy who has many sides to him but due to the environment that he has been brought up in, he is mostly reliant on his tough and violent side, only showing his vulnerability and smarts in the confines of his own home. This all changes when he goes to St Gilbert’s and has a proper chance to thrive and explore his other side, but his lack of ability to control his emotions makes a rougher side to him come out. He is forced to battle against that not only for his own sake, but for his peers as well.

What made you want to audition for this show?

The first script was really poignant and powerful in the sense of both drama and comedy so I think when we all read it, it was a no brainier that this would be an amazing opportunity. To take a character and make it your own whilst telling a beautiful and grander story at the same time.

We have to mention that you’ll be part of the Netflix show ‘SUPACELL’ with Tosin Cole from Doctor Who and Adelayo Adelayo from BBC Three ‘Some Girls’. How was it working with these two actors? From what I’ve read this is a show that sounds like it’s going to be amazing! I can’t wait to see this!

Thank you so much! They are both amazing and so is everyone else in the cast too. We all had so much fun working with each other and I definitely fed off the energies of these veterans that I’ve watched and wanted to work with for years to add to my own performance! 

From what I can see from the behind the scenes footage of 'SUPACELL'. There was a lot of stunt work. Did you get to do that? If so, what was that like?

Hell yeah! From fighting, to hanging from ceilings, it was a lot and very physically taxing but an amazing experience to have! I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

‘Festival of Slaps’ which has already won ‘Best British Short Film’ from BIFA and has already been long listed for Best Short Film for the BAFTAS. How does this make you feel? 

Festival of Slaps dropped last year and honestly it was one of the best feelings ever. We shot it two years ago and it was my first ever on screen project. I’ve got a lot of passion for it, it breaks the norm and trend of black story telling, specifically how black mums are portrayed and does it beautifully. All the Awards are such a bonus and I can’t believe that we even made it here, from us thinking it might not even come out so we thank God ! 

Where would you like to see yourself in five years time?

Hopefully still progressing, still bettering my past self and performances and just overall being the best version of me. I’ve got a lot to give and I want to give it all. I can’t contain it. There are stories to be told and the ones that call me I want to amplify as much as possible. Amen.
