Dropping her latest single 'Attention' last month, Georgia Webster is here to talk to us about her reaction to the release, creating her music videos, and who she sees as role models in the music industry.

Georgia! Thanks for chatting to ReVamp today. Congratulations on your latest single ‘Attention’. How has the reaction been since the release ?

Hi!! Thanks for having me and for all the support on “Attention”. The reaction has been really good so far. Obviously I haven’t put out music in a second so for it being over a year since my last release, I’m really happy with the feedback it’s gotten. The fans I’ve made so far in my career, including the ones I made on tour with Kelsea who are now huge supporters, seem to really like it, which is all I can hope for.

How is this single different to the previous singles?

Well for one, I didn’t write it! It’s been weird saying that in interviews because literally every song I’ve put out up until now has been either me writing it alone or me writing it with a couple other writers. One of my favorite writers in town who I’ve been a fan of since high school, her name is Emily Weisband, she wrote this with Laura Veltz and Sam Ellis, who are equally as incredible. After Emily and I had co-written a couple of the songs on the project already, she showed this song to me and thought it was fitting for the breakup I had gone through. When I heard the bridge, I was just in awe and had full body chills. I thought, “this sounds like something I would write.. if I could write this freaking good” haha.

The way your music videos are filmed are absolutely stunning. Giving that old footage / retro vibe. What inspired you to create videos like this?

Awe thank you so much. That’s truly what I’m going for!! Luke Rodgers did this last video as well as all the creative for this project and it’s been so inspiring working with him. When I was looking for someone to do the art for this project I was stuck between a few different people. There’s honestly just so many talented creatives in Nashville so it’s hard, but Luke stuck out to me with his vintage vibe and the way he does a lot of his stuff on film. I’ve always had a love for film photos. I have a Pentax and take photos with it all the time just as a hobby, and just something about that look feels timeless and classic to me and gives me such a nostalgic feeling.

What would you say are the highs and lows with writing a song?

Oh god there’s so many… I struggle with getting caught in the ups and downs of songwriting quite often and I think being a songwriter in general kinda just comes with that. It’s hard when I’m not super inspired and there’s a creative lull and I can’t think of much to say, and in those periods, I tend to get a little depressed and down on myself. Then there’s the periods where I’m super inspired and everything just flows out of me. Like for this last project I think I wrote like 28 songs all about this one guy pretty much. I was on this high of feeling so inspired and creative and felt like I had so much to say. I’m slowly learning how to find balance and how to find little nuggets of inspiration in the times where it seems impossible to.

Who would you say are your role models from the music industry?

Taylor Swift is a huge one, obviously! I’ve always loved her as a person, not just her music but the way she handles tough situations and criticism… I just think she’s so classy and intelligent. Kelsea Ballerini is also a huge one, especially now that I’ve had the chance to tour with her for like a year. She’s been such a great person to look up to and has given me a lot of advice when it comes to performing and just the industry in general.

What can we expect to see from you for the rest of 2024?

Lots and lots of new music! I’ve been working on this music for the past 6 months and am sooo proud of it and happy with how it came out. I’m just so ready to share it with everyone. It feels like I’ve found my sound and it is quite different from my last stuff which I think people are going to be pleasantly surprised with. I’m also hoping to start playing some more headlining shows soon. I just played my first one in Nashville which sold out and was so fun and made me want to do more of those around the country.
