Hailing from New York, Bri Carter projects a perfect blend of pop, alt, hip-hop, and hyperpop into all her music. Her journey initiated with a sense of being not able to quite fit in only to soon discover that her talents resided in the creative field of music aiding her to express her authentic emotions through this specific outlet; further allowing her to grow in unimaginable ways.

In 2023, Bri released four successful singles through the independent record label 'Renegade Records.' She also stepped into the role of self-producing her latest singles, "LUST" and "ur gf listens to my music," a significant achievement for an emerging artist. 
Notably, she belongs to the rare 2.8% of female music producers in the USA.

Carter recently made her headline debut at Berlin in NYC. The month of March also saw Bri opening for Carlie Hanson during the North American leg of Carlie's tour at The Foundry in Philadelphia.

Carter has garnered a dedicated following and fanbase on TikTok, with over 50,000 followers spanning the globe and she's back with her latest offering. 

"We fell in love in October" celebrates fall romance. But for those experiencing heartbreak in October, "We fell apart in October" is their anthem, offering solace when fall feels more like a season of discontent. 

Bri Carter recently sat down with ReVamp in order to discuss insights into her music journey so far.

Hi there Bri. Thank you for joining us on ReVamp! I hope you're doing well. Since we're almost at the end of this year, what would you say has been your most memorable moment of 2023?

Thank you so much for having me! I’ve had a great year filled with a lot of awesome memories but I think my most memorable moment was opening up for Carlie Hanson in March at the Foundry in Philadelphia! I have always been such a big fan of her music so it was such an amazing feeling to be able to share the stage with her and meet one of my favorite artists!

I would love to start our conversation by mentioning your surreal new track "we fell apart in October". Kindly walk me through the creative process behind the song?

Thank you! I self produced this track and this beat was actually one of the first beats that I had ever made. So one day I was going through my computer looking at all my files and I found that beat and I was like “you know what this is actually pretty cool!” so I made a few adjustments and wrote some lyrics to it and it all came together nicely! I love to write sad songs to up beat melodies.

What was the initial inspiration behind the track? Did the idea emerge out of any real experiences of your life?

The main idea behind this track was taken as inspiration from Girl in Red’s “we fell in love in october.” That’s such a classic song especially during the fall months where people are showing off their relationships and I thought to myself “what about the people who are going through heartbreak this october?” so that’s where the “we fell apart in october” came from. I love the original song so much so I thought it would be cool to put my own spin on it in my Bri Carter fashion.

This track is definitely aimed for the people who experienced heartbreak and to find solace through it; being their new heartbreak anthem. I would love to know do you usually find solace through your own music?

I definitely do find solace through my own music. It’s totally my outlet and therapy for me. I have a ton of songs I’ve written about things I was going through that I’ll probably never release but it just feels good to get the emotions out. As far as the music I drop, I like to take experiences from my own life but also make it relatable to the listener, so that they can hear it and have it apply to their own life and situations, without it being entirely specific to me. But I’m also working on being more vulnerable in my music and sharing those personal moments without holding back, because that also can create a deeper relationship with the listener.

It has already been a few days since this amazing project has been released. How would you say has the reception been on the track so far?

It’s been great! I’ve gotten a ton of comments and messages saying that they were going through a heartbreak recently and that this song was exactly what they needed.

Which is the best feeling, having your music be healing and cathartic to somebody. It’s such a two way street because whenever people tell me how much my music has helped them, it helps me as well. Being an artist is hard and when you hear that someone is finding comfort in the song you made in your bedroom at 2 a.m. it makes all the struggles worth it.

You also recently made your debut headline at Berlin in New York City. Congratulations! How was your experience like with that?

Thank you so much! It was great. I had the best time. This was my first time performing with a drummer and I loved it. I think it brought such a dope energy to the set and it was cool to see my songs come to life instead of just being an audio track! At the last chorus of my song “ur gf listens to my music” I stopped singing, the drummer stopped playing, I took out my in-ears and I just took a minute to hear everybody singing my lyrics back to me, and that is a moment I’ll never forget.

From Alt, Pop, Hip-Hop, Hyper-Pop, your tracks showcases an amalgamation of a lot of distinct elements. How would you personally describe your sound?

Haha that is a great question that I am still trying to figure out. My manager recently described me as “a box of mixed chocolates, you have so many flavors” and I think that’s totally accurate. I feel like I take so many different elements from different genres and incorporate it into my music that it’s hard to describe me as one thing. Sometimes I feel like I don’t really fit into a specific category and it can be frustrating because I think to myself “If I was more pop would they like me more? Or If I was more hip-hop would my music be more widespread?” but I think it's a disservice to yourself as an artist to make your art for the pleasure of others rather than yourself. So as long as I’m making music that I like, I don’t care what genre it is. And I’ve built up such a solid fan base of people that are so supportive of what I do, that I know if I keep being genuine to myself, I will attract the right kind of people.

What's next for you, Bri? Any upcoming projects you're currently working on?

I am currently working on my debut album. This album will be entirely self produced and I am so excited to have a body of work that is unapologetically me. I released a 7 song EP in the summer of 2022 so this will be my first full length project. Then after that I am
planning on doing a little East Coast tour to celebrate the release.
