Dazzling fans with a captivating array of singles, the emerging singer-songwriter and creative force, Sophia Amato, has returned with her sophomore EP, NY/LON. This new release boasts a 6-track collection, spearheaded by single “ISAIAH”, each intricately detailing Amato's personal experiences during a scorching New York summer. Within this compelling exploration of self, she navigates the sonic fusion of Mediterranean heat with the concrete jungle, capturing the vibrant and diverse culture of the city.

We chat to Amato about her latest EP, favourite track she written and dream collaborations.

Hello Sophia! Thanks for talking to ReVamp. Congratulations on your latest EP! For lead single ‘ISAIAH’ what was the process of creating this single?

Thank you so much! ISAIAH was probably the easiest song to write. I was in my kitchen and couldn’t believe I hadn’t told this story yet. I felt such urgency to write this song. I ran to the studio and it pretty much wrote itself.

The name of your EP is ‘NY/LON’! Which is an incredible name for an EP. Two of my favorite cities! What made you decide to name your EP this?

Thanks! Such amazing energy in these cities. I had the title for a while. I originally thought it would be just a song, and I wrote 3 or 4 different versions before realising I had a lot more to say, and it needed to be a full EP.

What’s your favorite track from the EP and why?

I love them all for different reasons, but SUNBURN lives in a really interesting space. The song’s an admittance of indulging in someone/somewhere for too long. What starts off as nurturing becomes destructive. The lyrics have a poetic and abstract quality and it musically goes on a journey through genres.

Do you have any dream collaborations you would love to happen?

I would love to work with an orchestra. I watched The London Contemporary Orchestra perform for Alexander McQueen’s SS20 runway show and loved the density of it. It’s a direction I’m leaning into more.

As 2023 is nearly coming to an end… What have you got planned for coming up?

So much! I’m planning a video to SUNBURN that I want to release 2024. I produce and direct all my videos so that takes some time to prep. And so much music. It’s really exciting.

Lastly, if you had the chance to ReVamp anything. What would it be and why?

Probably my garden! It needs some more colour!
