22-year-old Brooke Sause knows exactly how to make music that will tug at your heartstrings. After songwriting with her sister Breana for years, Brooke started releasing their music in 2021 and almost immediately found success, organically amassing over 100K on one of her early singles, 'Fallin For You'. 

Currently juggling law school and a budding music career, Brooke is a young talent with impressive aspirations and steadfast determination.

We chat to Cause about her latest single 'How Long', getting in to music and an upcoming EP she can't wait to release.

Hi Brooke! Thanks so much for talking to ReVamp! Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you first got into music?

Hey! I'm a 22-year-old musician and current law student at the University of Florida. Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up in a big family, there was always some kind of music playing in the background. My mom is actually a singer who went to college on a singing scholarship, so I remember her belting out tunes from Britney Spears and Shania Twain around the house. My stepdad loves bands like Zac Brown Band and Journey, and my dad is a guitar player who's into heavier stuff like King Diamond and Metallica. On top of all that, I have theatrical sisters and cousins who love to perform and write music, so it was only natural that I fell in love with music, too. I feel so lucky to have been surrounded by so much love for music growing up, and I can't imagine doing anything else now.

When you were younger, did you know music was something you were always going to get into or did you have other passions or career paths in mind? 

I never really considered pursuing music as a realistic career path. Despite my deep passion for singing and songwriting, I tend to be a more practical and realistic person when it comes to thinking about the future. However, everything changed when I began collaborating with my sister Breana on writing songs. She's an idealistic person, and her positive energy was contagious. She really encouraged me to believe in our music and our ability to succeed in the industry. It was a turning point for me, and I started to see that pursuing music wasn't just a dream, but a real possibility.

You have a new single out called "How Long." What has the initial reaction been to your new release?

We’ve gotten such positive reviews! A lot of people have been telling us that it is their favorite so far, which is something you always want to hear when you’re releasing new music. You want the music to be better with every release.

You describe it as a song that is "about being heartbroken and realizing that the person who broke your heart never loved you like you loved them," - is this a personal story of yours, and what made you want to turn that story into a single?

It’s a culmination of stories. My sister, our friend Lindsay, and I were eating breakfast by a lake, and the topic of heartbreak and realizing that we all have had a situation like this happen more or less. The song basically wrote itself from there.

What was your recording/writing process like for this song? How do you know once a song is completed and ready for release?

That’s a tough question. The process for this was a lot of back and forth while writing. During the recording process, I like to take time to figure out the harmonies and do vocal stacks. The process of recording takes a day or two at most. A lot of the process that is done after the recording session is done over video sessions with our producer. We usually just all know when the song is done. 

You are juggling a music career and in law school, how do you juggle the two together, and what are your top tips for other people balancing music with another career?

Juggling the two takes a lot of effort and making sure to manage your time. It is a difficult balance but it’s worth it.

What are the next steps for you, both in terms of your music career and law degree?

Definitely to release my EP! And I just finished my first year of law school, so continuing the next two years and seeing where both these avenues take me.
