Interview & Digital Editor: Pankhuri Bhutani

Hawaii McLaughlin is a widely known influencer, martial artist, stunt worker, and Hollywood actress branching out to work with Lucky Dog Entertainment, IMAX, and more on paid partnerships promoting premieres like Marvel’s Black Widow and more. She has successfully garnered a well-established fanbase and support from around the world, all thanks to her massive talent!

We recently had a chat with the wonderful Hawaii discussing insights into her professional journey as well as her plans for the future!

Hi there Hawaii! Lovely having you over on ReVamp. How are you doing? How’s this year treating you so far?

Hi, thank you so much for having me. I am doing well and this year has been so crazy.

I know you started out your journey being a competitive cheerleader for almost nine years and then slowly progressed towards the field of action. How has this transition been for you?

This transition has been so much fun, I am learning so much and meeting so many amazing people. I’m currently training at 87North with XMA as well as with Lewis Tan (from Mortal Kombat) and Arnold Chon. I’ve learned so much and still have so much to learn. I can’t wait to see where this path takes me.

Everyone has a distinct notion of pursuing the things that they love. Some do it because they feel the association towards their culture, for the others it can be exploring an unknown potential of themselves. What is that element for you? How do you personally feel when you involve yourself in action and all the other creative outlets?

When it comes to martial arts it does make me feel more connected to my culture and heritage because I am half Korean. Although, with acting I feel like it gives me an outlet to release emotions and find elements within myself to be released. I want to find out what I am capable of and what I can achieve through acting.

You are not only wonderful at action but also a phenomenal actress and model. Now that you’re officially residing in LA, any plans on joining the big/small screen?

Within the next 3 years, I picture myself on the big screen.

Being immersed in so many diverse creative endeavors, how do you balance out your professional and personal life when it comes to factors like time management?

When it comes to time management I really have to be thankful for my mom because she helps me so much. Free time between training, classes, and events is few and far between. Once I make time for studying, family and friends my schedule can get really tight. But even with tight schedules, I like to keep my personal life and professional life completely separate.

Since you are extremely vocal about your love for Zendaya, I have to ask if you could have the opportunity to make a movie with her, what sort of character would you like to embody alongside hers? Do you have any dream role/plot in your mind?

If I could ever do anything with Zendaya I would love for it to be an action movie with a villain/hero storyline. I would love for us to be enemies in the film; she is such a talented actress and doing anything with her would be such a dream.

Lastly, are there any upcoming projects you’re currently working on that you’d like to tell your fans about?

Currently, I have multiple projects in the works but nothing I can talk about just yet but make sure to keep an eye out. Thank you so much it was so lovely meeting you.
