Anassa

20th January 2023

Interview & Editor-in-chief: Owen James Vincent

Anassa has already featured on the two huge club hits over Summer ‘22 including 'Summer of Love' with Tom Ferry, released on Jonas Blue’s Electronic Nature label & synced on Love Island UK & USA. Teaming with Mobo award winning UK rapper Alika, Anassa has dropped her newest track ‘On and On’.

Hi Anassa! Happy New Year! Congratulations on the release of your new track. How did you get inspired to write this dance record?

Hello, Happy New Year! Thank-you so much! I had a great time writing ‘Too Blind’ with Z and Krunchie so we organised another session with Alika. I travelled in the morning, we started at about mid day and the whole thing was done by about 2, it was a such quick session that I didn’t really know what to do with myself for the rest of the day!

This song will definitely be on my dance playlist as it’s so catchy! What did you want your listeners to take away from this?

Thank-you! I guess I’d like them to know there’s so many more upbeat dance tracks that I cant wait to share. I’ve spent the last 10 years working with some amazing people on some awesome tracks (if I do say so myself) and I really cant wait for the clubs to hear them.

How was it teaming up with Alika?

It was an incredible experience. It was such a fun session and I learnt so much from the others in the room. Lyrics are such an important part for me and rap as a genre fascinates me so seeing someone as accomplished and talented Alika write her verse was really cool.

Who else would you love to work with?

Other than the cliches (Beyonce) I feel my answer has become a bit mainstream but Ive always wished I could work with Raye, SZA or Frank Ocean (to name a few from my stupidly long list.) I swear I’ve been listening to their albums since I was about 15 (I, U, Us; Ctrl; channelORANGE) I’d like to think its not TikTok conditioning, although I’m sure that’s helped.

Do you remember the first song you wrote?

I do actually but I don’t know if I want to tell the story… it involves me thinking I was a Disney princess in the garden, I guess that’s where I get my delusion from.

Lastly, got any plans for 2023 that you can tell us?

I’m really excited to be starting off the year moving to London. I’ve only ever visited the capital so moving here full time is something I’m really nervous but excited about. It means I’ll have lots more writing sessions and gigs lined up alongside my upcoming releases I’ve got planned.
