Releasing her new single 'Tidal Wave' last week. We got to chat to Maria-Therese about the release, plans for 2023 and artists she would love to collaborate with.

What was the inspiration behind it? 

Firstly thank you for this opportunity! Tidal Wave is for the big lovers, the ones that are willing to give but sometimes we meet people who aren’t willing to reciprocate that. Sometimes our heart makes us stay longer than we should in certain situations, and it can be frustrating as hell. Knowing you need better, but you keep going back. Sort of a letter to myself. 

What would you want your listeners to take away from this?

I want my listeners to understand that to have the capacity to love or to feel deeply isn’t a bad thing. I think a lot of the time we compromise our natural selves for the sake of people who can’t accept that, which then becomes something different entirely. It is not you who needs to change. So big up yourself babes!

Have you got a favourite lyric?

My favourite lyric from the song is probably in Jays verse  when he says “let’s see how long you can hold my breath, you treat my scars better than the rest” - ouf that hit. When you’re trying to believe that this person can be it, almost convincing yourself.

Are there any artists you would love to collaborate with?

I’d love to collaborate with BADBADNOTGOOD. They are an incredible band, always releasing such well thought music, beautifully orchestrated (a shout-out to Felix). Also Lizzy McAlpine , she is a phenomenal writer and her music is so moving; listen to ‘Erase me' by her, you won’t regret it.

Have you got any exciting plans for 2023?

Working on a new project and really putting in the 10,000 hours behind it. There’s a lot of moving pieces right now behind the scenes, but let’s just say you’ll be hearing the name Maria-Therese a lot more!
