4th October 2022

Interview & Digital Editor: Pankhuri Bhutani

At just the age of 13, Trinity Bliss has successfully marked her footsteps in the field of music, songwriting and acting. Currently releasing her brand new single “California Sun”, things are not slowing down for Bliss. Soon about to be seen starring alongside Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña and Kate Winslet in one of the most anticipated movies of the year “Avatar: The Way of Water”, Trinity Bliss sits down with ReVamp magazine in order to discuss insights into her career.

Hi there Trinity. Thank you for joining us on ReVamp! How is 2022 treating you so far?

It has been an amazing year! I have now released four of the singles from my forthcoming debut album “Confessions of a Preteen”! There has been so much amazing love for these songs and I am truly grateful! I am so looking forward to the remainder of the year because the album itself will be dropped around my birthday!

At just the age of 13, you have successfully involved yourself in the field of music, songwriting, and acting. How do you balance yourself when it comes to factors like time management?

Good question! For music and songwriting, it is like the air I need to breathe everyday. When I am busy with acting, I just make time to write music so I can continue to breathe. I take the opportunity on set, in taxis, on planes, to think about my music and lyrics. Always breathing…. I hope this analogy makes sense!

Let’s talk about your recent single “California Sun”. It’s such a beautiful track! I would love to know the initial inspiration behind the track as well as how the general creative process went with this single?

This is a song about love and hope. I wrote the song in the depths of the pandemic in 2019. I wanted to tell the world how much I miss the good times and that I hope it will come back to us soon. That’s how California Sun came along. Although there are moments where I am feeling so insignificant, lost and confused in this wild world, I often find myself feeling happier, stronger, and hopeful again in the California sun.

As with all my music, once I had a version of the song idea I was happy with, I worked with my producer, Jason (Bavanandan), to tweak, finish, and produce it. I really love how rich and warm it sounds! This is a love song to California where I call home and where I grew up. This is a song that I hope when you listen to, you will feel the warmth and brightness and hope of the California sun and want to fall in love and hope again like I do.

You stated that you had left working on this track for almost a year when you realized the need for completing this project. What was it really that made you decide to return to this song?

Its core feeling of love and loss, which I wrote during the pandemic, made me realise that this was a story that had to be told. I just needed to figure out a way to finish it. Magic always happens in the studio when you work on ideas with new approaches. Initially I started with a chorus I really loved but I wasn’t too sure about the bridge.

When I brought it to Jason, we immediately changed up the chords in the verses which switched up the feel and then allowed us to evolve the lyrics and melodies some more. Finally the troublesome bridge then came together during recording and everything kind of just fell into place. It’s a really natural process. And we work real fast!

Besides your phenomenal recent track, you will also soon be seen starring in the highly anticipated film, “Avatar: The Way of Water”. Huge congratulations on that! What can you tell us about this specific endeavor and how does it feel like to be reaching such a pivotal stage in your life being involved in one of the biggest movies of all time?

I am so fortunate to be part of this beautiful movie. I still can’t believe that it all happened and I’m so excited for everyone to see “Avatar: The Way Of Water”. I first started recording with a mic during this time so I will always remember this period as the beginning of my music recording career also.

Any memorable behind-the-scenes experience you’d like to share with your fans?

I brought my guitar to set almost everyday. I would play in front of my trailer for everyone passing by when I was on break. Everyone was so kind and encouraging — no matter how awful it sounded. Looking back it’s actually hilarious that I was trying to figure out this thing called ‘music’ in front of all these huge stars. But that’s the beauty of being that young: people are just people.

How do you usually prepare for the characters that you are about to portray? Do you possess a certain acting ritual before finally appearing in front of the camera?

That’s my little secret, hehe! When it comes to my acting ritual, beforehand I meditate and try to get into the right headspace. Breathing in and out and tuning into the different parts of my body so I can use them all for the scene ahead! Afterwards I shake it off by going home, listening to my favorite music, and snuggling with my pup!

You have been a part of HBO Max’s ‘The Garcias’, Apple TV+’s ‘Best Foot Forward’, and the forthcoming Hollywood blockbuster ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’. Is there any other specific genre or type of project that you’d wish to indulge yourself in your upcoming years? If given an opportunity, who would you absolutely love to collaborate with in the future?

So much!! I’ve always wanted to be able to play a character that’s not like me at all.

In regards to collaboration, I dream of working with Coldplay on something because their music has the same optimism and hope that mine does. I feel like my generation needs that desperately.

What are the top 3 things on your bucket list for the rest of this year?

1. People enjoy the songs on my debut album “Confessions of a Preteen”!
2. I give my mom the BEST birthday ever.
3. Everyone sees Avatar!

Lastly, is there any message that you’d like to convey to your supporters reading this interview currently?

Thank you for listening and taking this wild ride with me! It’s just the beginning and I’m only getting started. I can’t wait to see where this takes us all. Hugs and lots of love!!
