Micaela has been very busy recently has she has wrote, produced and starred in her own upcoming film, 'Remy & Arletta' which is based on a true story that she wrote in a novel. 

We got to chat to Micaela about the upcoming film, what she likes to do in her downtime and where she sees herself in ten years.

Hello Micaela, Thanks for chatting with us at ReVamp! How has 2022 treated you so far?

Lots of ups and downs. All year I keep saying, the highs are really high and the lows are really low. But ultimately, I think I’m on the right track. As of this second, it’s 3 AM and I’m answering these questions while doing a last minute color grade on Remy & Arletta, which is about to premiere at Outfest. Even though it’s stressful, this one counts as a high. 

You've written, starred in and produced the upcoming film 'Remy & Arletta' which is based on your true story and a novel you wrote. Can you tell us a little bit about the film and what made you decide to create this project?

I’ve had a desire to be heard for awhile now, but I grapple with it being embarrassing to put myself and my story out there. I wrote the script during Covid, and I think everyone can relate to having a lot of time to think about where their life is at and what they want out of it. I decided it was time to tell the truth and use my story to make something that I don’t see enough in cinema. We had a tiny but powerful team and I think that helped us accomplish something really raw and special. 

You also starred in another film recently called Clairevoyant. RogerEbert.com said your work in the film was “a tour de force performance” and called the film “an uproariously funny and cringe-inducing mockumentary.” Can you describe the story and your character to our readers that haven't seen it?

Claire is a rich, ignorant, in many ways stereotypical LA girl. She goes on a quest to find enlightenment, but she’s screwed from the start because she hires a camera guy to document her journey, which is inherently egotistical. What’s special about Claire though is that she genuinely is searching for answers about life, she just has a goofy facade. I think that makes her really relatable. She’s not just one thing, she’s kind of a mess. But ultimately, her heart is in the right place. Oh, also she’s hilarious. 

What do you like to do in your downtime?

I’ve had such a laser sharp focus on my goals for so long that I don’t even know who I am outside of them. Me and my boyfriend go for drives to unwind. We like to eat. I like to pump myself full of coffee! We also love just walking around the Century City Mall. I could be content just doing that. 

Where do you want to be in 10 years?

The nice thing is, I put myself on a path where I’m kinda doing what I want to do in 10 years. I would just like to see a lot more ease in the process, a bigger team of people helping me, more opportunity. I love acting, and I’m excited to take on really great roles over the next 10 years. Although, I will say, I’m a little tired of making my own movies. I never intended to be a sound and picture editor, and I’m giving myself back pain from hunching over my crappy laptop making movies!

Lastly, have you got a message that you would like to tell our readers?

The first thing that comes to mind is the classic “you can do anything you set your mind to.” But, I think they’ve heard that before (although I do stand by it). If I could add something even slightly unique, it would be that, at the end of the day, nothing really matters. I don’t mean that in a nihilistic way, I mean it in the opposite. I just think it’s really easy to put so much unnecessary stress and anxiety on ourselves, which in turn becomes debilitating. I get a lot of my best work done when I tell myself it doesn’t matter how it turns out. A little bit of levity like that goes a long way.
