Interview & Editor-in-chief: Owen James Vincent

Rong Fu is an actress you need to look out for! Starring in big projects this year such as Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Hello Again, and Pretty Hard Cases. Rong has a brand new movie to add to her list which is 'My Fake Boyfriend'

We chat to Rong about her latest project, behind the scenes stories and we ask her if there are any roles she likes to play in.

Hi Rong! Thanks for chatting to us at ReVamp Magazine! Congratulations on your new project “My Fake Boyfriend” what made you audition for this project?

Hello and thank you! I auditioned for My Fake Boyfriend because I liked the story and have been a fan of Buzzfeed's content for a long time. Plus it looked like a really fun project to be involved in!

You play the role of Jessica in the movie. Why did you go for this particular role? And would you say you and Jessica have any similarities?

When I auditioned for Jessica, the breakdown requested strong comedians for the role. Now, I love doing comedy, but I wouldn't necessarily consider myself a comedian. It seemed like a fun challenge, so I wanted to give it a shot. When I read the scenes, I thought Jessica was hilarious and I had a pretty clear idea of how I wanted to approach the role. As for similarities, I would say we're kinda the polar opposite from each other. I'm pretty introverted, whereas Jessica really puts herself out there.

Have you got any funny behind the scenes stories while filming?

It was a really fun shoot, and I loved working with our director Rose Troche. She had a very natural and open energy. Likewise for Keiynan Lonsdale and Samer Salem, it was a pleasure to act out all of Jessica's craziness with them. In one of the takes, I definitely came close to chopping my fingers off when I stabbed an eggplant with a knife. Thankfully, the knife was well sharpened and I avoided losing my digits.

Is there a role or genre you like to play in and why?

I love comedies and sci-fi! I think what gravitates me towards them is that they both allow the opportunity to really step outside of the norm. As an actor it's fun whenever I get the chance to really stretch in a role or emerge myself in a different world.

When you look at the future, what do you envision for your career?

My dream is to die on stage one day, when I'm well into old age. Like during a closing night performance where I take my final bow, and my last breath. Now that would be great for me, albeit traumatic for my castmates and audience. Sorry, not sorry.

Lastly, do you have a message that you would like to say to your readers?

Always handle kitchen knives with care and watch what you're chopping.

My Fake Boyfriend is now streaming on Amazon Prime.
