Having starred in numerous successful television dramas some of them including ‘Cucumber’, ‘Paranoid’, ‘The Boy with The Topknot’, ‘Bancroft’, ‘Dark Heart’, ‘The Dead Room’ and ‘Wild Bill’ alongside Hollywood star Rob Lowe, Anjli Mohindra is wildly known for her portrayal as Nadia in the BAFTA-winning BBC/Netflix thriller ‘Bodyguard’, a controversial role for which she received critical acclaim from around the world.

Hailing from Nottingham, Anjli then went on to star in the 2021 mega-successful production ‘Vigil’ alongside Suranne Jones which in no time transformed into BBC’s biggest new drama of the year. She was recently seen in Netflix’s latest offering- Munich: The Edge of War alongside the phenomenal Jeremy Irons and George MacKay. Anjli will also be soon seen in ‘The Lazarus Project’ — a thriller for Sky alongside Paapa Essiedu and Tom Burke.

Besides acting, Anjli’s talent branches out to the field of writing as well. She recently secured a development deal with Urban Myth Films to create a TV series based on the life of Princess Sophia Duleep Singh — the daughter of the last Maharajah of Punjab and a goddaughter of Queen Victoria.

We recently had an insightful chat with our latest cover star — the talented Anjli Mohindra in order to discuss her exciting acting journey and upcoming projects!

Hi there Anjli. Thank you for joining us on ReVamp! How has the beginning of 2022 been for you so far?

Busy! I’m in development on two writing projects at the moment. So I’ve been knuckling down on those for most of January! February has been much more chilled so far. I’m trying to find balance!

Before delving into your phenomenal acting journey, I’d like to ask you what was it initially that brought you closer to the field of entertainment?

I’ve always loved stories. And being taken on journeys of the imagination. I used to put on shows for my family when I was a kid. I always knew I wanted to work in the arts.

You will be soon be seen starring in Sky’s new sci-fi thriller ‘The Lazarus Project’ alongside the immensely talented Paapa Essiedu and Tom Burke. Huge congratulations on that! What can you tell us about your character?

Thank you! Archie is tough and dry. She is a member of an organization called the Lazarus Project, whose remit it is to stop the world from ending. She introduces George (Paapa Essiedu) into the fold when he wakes up one morning and keeps reliving time.

What was your experience like shooting for ‘The Lazarus Project'? Did you face any sort of challenges while portraying your character?

Archie, like any well-rounded character, has many facets. Linking those facets by creating a detailed backstory was both fun and challenging. I had to find who she was by finding where her pain met her humor, and her passion for her cause and her daredevil tendencies met with her ability to be measured. The person I discovered on that journey was one hell of a character to play. I would love her to be my friend she is so cool and wickedly funny.

You will also be indulging in a new writing project — an adaptation of Anita Anand’s biography of Queen Victoria’s Indian goddaughter. Is there anything you can tell us about this particular project?

The story of Sophia Duleep Singh caught my attention! She was the daughter of the last Maharajah of Punjab, Queen Victoria’s goddaughter and a leading Suffragette- she was even a Florence Nightingale-Esque nurse who attended to the Indian soldiers who fought in WW1. Her life is gobsmacking and development is in the early stages!

Do you have any specific acting rituals? How do you generally prepare yourself before finally going in front of the camera?

I try to know my characters inside and out, so that I can be as free and instinctive in front of the camera. I try to remember to have fun, which isn’t always easy on the nerves get in the way!

Is there any piece of advice that you’d like to share with the upcoming actors trying to make it into the industry?

The life of an actor is packed with rejection. It can take a toll on your mental health and bleed into other aspects of your life. You have to try and find as many things that bring you joy that you can tap into when your life gets derailed by the ‘NO’s, I’m learning that having a full and varied life is the key. That and just ”keep going” it’s a marathon, not a sprint and you’ll find your way into the industry if you don’t give up!

If given an opportunity, who would you absolutely love to work and collaborate with in the future?

I would love to work with Danny Boyle, Clio Bernard, and Greta Gerwig.

Lastly, is there any message that you wish to convey to your fans reading this interview?

Life is about joy, a very wise friend told me to gravitate towards the things that give you that. Life is too short to waste on doing things you don’t love or on the people who don’t empower you.

The Lazarus Project is on Sky Max from June 16th!
